Hello/Intro 5th Ann.Return to index of stories... |
Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to this special edition of New Hampshire Outlook. In this program, we're taking a trip down memory lane. We're bringing you highlights of a journey that began on September 18-th, 2000. |
Toss Richard #1Return to index of stories... |
NH Outlook has had a team of producers and reporters working to bring you those stories. They're here with me now to show you just a few of their favorites. We begin with Richard Ager. Richard, what tops your list of stories covered these past five years? |
Richard Intro #1Return to index of stories... |
Since Outlook began, we've been through three election cycles, a presidential primary, and a very unsettled time in state politics with an attorney general forced to resign and an incumbent Republican governor going down to defeat. But probably nothing tops what we started with. |
Richard Q & AReturn to index of stories... |
What do you think makes our coverage different from others? |
Toss Phil Return to index of stories... |
One of the goals of New Hampshire Outlook is to connect communities throughout the state with others who may be grappling with the same issues or challenges. Producer Phil Vaughn has covered many of those stories for us and is here now to share a few highlights of his past five years here. |
Phil Intro tapeReturn to index of stories... |
Many of the stories I cover aren't headlines on the local news. They are important stories but not often told. |
Phil Q & AReturn to index of stories... |
How did you find these stories? Why do you think they're important? How has the concurrent receipt law changed? |
Toss ChipReturn to index of stories... |
We've heard from many viewers that the stories that resonate most are the ones about real people. That's where Chip Neal comes in. |

Thank you Beth. You're right I am just amazed by all of the interesting things going on out there. And all of it is fair game for my beat. I have been finding stories and bringing them back here to share with all of you for more than 20 years now. ALL of my stories are about people. About you. |
Chip Q & AReturn to index of stories... |
Chip, you interviewed the Bell-ways in 2001. How are they doing now? Eugene and Marie Beloin are still going strong they celebrated their 64-th anniversary this summer. |
Toss AllyReturn to index of stories... |
As you may have seen at the beginning of the program, the first host of New Hampshire Outlook was Allison Mcnair. She left the program 2 years ago to pursue her master's degree in . She's now studying with some of the professors she interviewed while hosting the program. Ally joins us now to talk about some of her most memorable moments on the program. |
Toss Richard #2Return to index of stories... |
When Outlook premiered, some people suggested we wouldn't find enough to talk about on the program. As Richard Ager shows us now, that has been and continues to be far from true. |
Richard Intro #2Return to index of stories... |
We may be a small state, but we have more than a million people here. That's a lot of stories. If we talk about memorable people, I would start with a couple - literally. Brad and Barbara Washburn - explorers, cartographers, master photographers - and the driving force behind the Boston Museum of Science. |

Sometimes you feel privileged to just have the chance to meet someone and tell their story. I first met Mike Durant when he came home to Berlin in 1993. I met him again a decade later when he told his story in a best-selling book. I heard later from his parents that amid all that publicity, they appreciated our coverage the most. |

I'm the newest member of the team. Although, I may be the host of the program, I do get a chance to get out in the field where I've come across some incredible stories -- from a prima ballerina from Hungary now teaching in NH --to an Author who's story about her mentally challenged sister became a "made-for tv" Movie. Two of my favorites included a trip to Plimoth Plantation, which played a pivotal role in the making of PBS's Colonial House series-- and, the emotional re-union of a Congo family separated by war -- and now living in NH. |
Final ChatReturn to index of stories... |
The Simwerayi's are a classic example of how community -- can make a difference. Anyone want to share a memorable behind-the-scenes moment? |
